What COGS means on a junk removal job
COGS, or cost of goods sold, is the share of the job price that went to actually doing the work: paying the crew, fueling the truck, and covering the dump fees. If you charged $600 and it cost $240 to run the job, your COGS is 40% and you kept $360.
Run the numbers after a few jobs and patterns show up fast. If your COGS keeps landing above 50%, your prices are too low or your jobs are taking too long. Money back from scrap metal counts in your favor, so log it too.
