Autopilot vs ToolTime

ToolTime is deliberately simple software for German trades shops from solo up to about ten people, with fast, free support and fair pricing on 12-month terms. It is built for Germany and the UK. Autopilot plays the same simple-and-affordable role for North American crews, and adds the phone, marketing, and an AI receptionist.

Who is ToolTime?

ToolTime is a Berlin-based, venture-backed company, with roughly $55M raised including backing from the services group WISAG, making intentionally simple Handwerkersoftware for solo operators up to shops of about ten people. It claims more than 20,000 customers and also sells into the UK. The product covers quoting, scheduling, job documentation, time tracking, and invoicing, with SMS appointment reminders and customer service that answers in under 15 minutes for free.

Pricing is straightforward: SOLO at €59 a month on annual billing (€89 month to month) for one user, TEAM at €112 a month for up to five users, and MAX at €220 a month for up to ten, with extra users around €29 to €35. All plans carry a 12-month minimum term, and there is a 7-day free trial. A new AI product called ToolTime Echo is on the way, and its API is still in beta.

For a German or UK trades shop that wants software the crew will actually use, ToolTime's simplicity is the point. It does not have a phone system or AI receptionist today, marketing tools are not part of the product, and its accounting world is DATEV, not QuickBooks. And like the rest of the German wave, it is not aimed at North America.

Who is Autopilot?

Autopilot is an all-in-one CRM built for home service businesses: junk removal, cleaning, landscaping, moving, and the rest of the trades that keep neighborhoods running. Plans start at $49 a month for scheduling, estimates, invoicing, payments, and online booking. Crew at $99 adds two-way texting and limited calling. Full Throttle at $149 adds the full phone system, AI receptionist, QuickBooks, GPS, and marketing tools. Plans include 1, 5, or 10 team members respectively.

It was built by a founder who ran his own junk removal company and got tired of paying for three tools that didn't talk to each other. Over 400 businesses run on it today, and it holds a 4.8 rating on the App Store and 4.9 on Google Play.

Against ToolTime, Autopilot is the same philosophy on the right continent: simple software a small crew adopts in a day, but with month-to-month terms and the phone, texting, marketing, and AI receptionist already inside.

The bottom line

Two different tools for two different businesses. Here is the honest split.

Choose ToolTime if…

  • You run a German or UK trades shop and want German-language software and support
  • You want deliberately simple software a non-technical crew adopts fast
  • Sub-15-minute free support matters to you
  • You are fine committing for 12 months to get the better rate

Choose Autopilot if…

  • You run a US or Canadian crew; ToolTime is built for Germany and the UK
  • You want month-to-month terms instead of a 12-month minimum
  • You want calls answered by an AI receptionist on a built-in phone, included in the plan
  • You want marketing built in: review requests, SMS and email blasts, and Google Ads tracking

Switching from ToolTime takes an afternoon

Four steps, and our team does the heavy one for you.

  1. 1

    Export your customers

Pull your client list out of ToolTime as a CSV. Every FSM platform supports this, and it takes about five minutes.

  2. 2

    We import everything for you

Send us the file and our team loads your customers, jobs, and price book into Autopilot as part of free onboarding. No spreadsheet wrestling on your end.

  3. 3

Point your phone number at Autopilot

On Full Throttle, keep your existing business number. We port it or forward it, so calls start landing in Autopilot with recording, transcripts, and the AI receptionist behind them.

  4. 4

Run both for a week, then cut over

Your ToolTime account keeps working during your free trial. Most crews book their first Autopilot job on day one and cancel the old subscription within the month.
